The 18th annual Arizona Coalition for Tomorrow (ACT) Health Fair was held on Saturday, September 20th at the Phoenix Preparatory Academy in Central Phoenix. It is sponsored by the Maricopa County Medical Society every year. Dr. Suresh Anand and Dr. Miriam Anand participated in this annual event to provide free physical, dental, hearing, and vision examinations and immunizations in preparation for enrollment in the national Head Start education-based program for Valley children who would otherwise be unable to obtain such care.

We are pleased to announce that on Monday, July 21, 2008 at 8 a.m., Phoenix Children's Hospital will open Arizona's only freestanding, designated Level 1 Trauma Center exclusively for pediatric patients. As you may know, the need for this trauma center is great. Nationwide, traumatic injury kills more children between the ages of 1 and 14 than any other cause. Care at a trauma center lowers the risk of death by 25 percent compared to non trauma centers. When it opens in July, the Phoenix Children's Hospital Trauma Center will accept trauma patients 14 years and under from EMS/scene of injury or as transfers from other facilities. We will be the only pediatric trauma center in Arizona with in hospital, attending level pediatric surgeons and anesthesiologists. The preparation for launching a Level 1 Trauma Center has been a Hospital wide effort. Phoenix Children's anticipates a strong launch and quick growth, and we have set high goals for our new Trauma Center. More details will be shared as the July 21 opening draws near. Together, we look forward to providing a higher level of service to our Arizona children. All of us here at Phoenix Children's Hospital truly value your hard work and efforts in your collaboration with us. You play a large part in providing world class care to our community's children and their families, and we look forward to continuing our important partnership.
